We become familiar with a new domain by developing a quantitative understanding though exposure to data. If we have to learn multiple domains quickly and simultaneously, we need to gather the relevant data quickly, put it into a sensible format rapidly and pull out the key features. We then need to spend time reading through the data in order to get a "feel" for the numbers and interesting features.

Additional Time
Be willing to spend "extra time" on tasks you need to do and are not familiar with or have no experience with. This way you will gain new abilities and new found confidence. You will also be able to help and explain the tasks to others. In fact, you should try explaining your new found knowledge to others to be sure you really understand it.
